The global economic downturn that began in the U.S.(2008), left affected many associated or in partnership governments to turn to austerity as a way of alleviating budget concerns. Austerity measures are attempts to significantly curtail government spending in an effort to control public-sector debt, particularly when a nation is in jeopardy of defaulting on its bonds. While the goal of those measures is to reduce government debt, their effectiveness remains matter of sharp debate.
Austerity became almost imperative in Europe, where euro zone members don't have the ability to address mounting debts by printing their own currency. As their default risk increased, creditors put pressure on these countries to aggressively tackle their spending.
"ASSESSMENT OF A CRISIS" is a visual account, a record and chronicle, a personal artistic attempt motivated to describe this crisis in the European domain following events as they occurred. It is not a "for or against" comment. Rather like a "report". Sources of inspiration were the media news (mainstream or alternative), that were playfully reinterpreted to produce what could be hidden behind the intention. These images and 3D models are the basis of a reflection on the various elaborate results that develop from austerity and its effect on the workings of societies.
(Would like to convey my excuse for the use of symbols, like emblems, flags etc. Critical expression is allowed when it extends to powers that "pull the strings" therefore control the fate of others. "Direct communication" can be expected).
